Ever wonder about the sport of Ringette? What is it most relatable to? Now we know what you’re thinking, CoachThem doesn’t offer resources for ringette yet. Well, you’d be surprised.
We got the chance to speak with Rod Sieben, Vice President of the Indus Lightning Ringette Association, who’s always making sure his directors have the information and resources they need to function everyday. A major part of this information sharing streams from CoachThem. So, to answer your question, ringette is relatable to hockey, which is why the Indus Lightning Associations subscription to our platform is so helpful to them. It also combines aspects of basketball and lacrosse.
Unfortunately, there aren’t that many resources for ringette coaches and players to better their practice and overall success. With more and more interest in the sport, there’s now a big influx of new players and new coaches, but there’s this lack of available resources, or those which put thought into development. There’s a lot of how do I get a plan together, what drills can I use, and what’re some proven drills? Sieben now has the answer to these questions and guess what… It's CoachThem.
Luckily, Sieben had been coaching hockey for twelve years prior to joining the Indus Lightning Association, which means his previous subscription and use of CoachThem came in quite handy when he made the move. Sieben’s been a loyal subscriber for about six years now, and by no means is looking back.
Sieben saw a need within the Indus Lightning Association to share the data from season coaches to new coaches and players. What better way to do that than with a system like ours, where you can have an association account which makes it easy to post drills for everyone to see. Season coaches who’ve put drills together for years, whether it’s hockey or ringette, know how to advance a drill from basic to elevated. Sieben shares these drills with newcomers via email and by distributing hard copies.
It’s not only the ability to share drills within the association that Sieben appreciates, but also the marketplace that allows you to share drills with the general CoachThem public. “It’s amazing, because it allows us to look at the hockey drills and think how can I modify that for ringette,” says Sieben. That’s how a lot of his drill creation begins; by finding a great hockey drill and thinking “if I do this and this, now it works for ringette, and then BAM, we’ve got a whole new set of drills,” says Sieben. So, the marketplace platform is, for the Indus Lightning Association, another crucial aspect used on CoachThem.
As an option for females to get on the ice, back in 1965, ringette was invented in Canada and has developed ever since. This year, there’s over 30,000 players in the sport. Ringette is now a widespread sport around the world, in countries like Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, areas in Northern Europe, and much more. Ringette has gone global! Now the question is… did we pique your interest?
